Cancer Center

Since 1991, North Mississippi Medical Center's Cancer Center has provided a full scope of services to diagnose, treat and help prevent cancer, as well as offered support to cancer patients and their families. As one of the three teaching hospital cancer programs in Mississippi to be approved by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, the NMMC Cancer Center has established itself as a leader in cancer care throughout north Mississippi, northwest Alabama and portions of Tennessee.

Pathology (Lab)

Medical Laboratory Scientists perform over 1.5 million tests per year in the areas of Blood Bank, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Electropheresis, Chemistry, Immunology, Serology and Microbiology. Pathologists perform anatomic pathology exams on more than 20,000 cases each year. The Pathology Department, in partnership with area universities, has a School of Medical Laboratory Science where students accepted into the program can work to obtain a B.S. degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. The department is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).


NMMC pharmacists work with patients, physicians and other health care providers to offer comprehensive, high-quality medical care. Working in a comprehensive health care system offers extensive learning opportunities and experience in pharmaceutical care.



Composed of a wide variety of diagnostic and specialty areas, the NMMC Radiology Department offers a fast paced environment working with state-of the equipment, and caring, knowledgeable professionals in Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, Interventional Radiology and Mammography. Technologists treat patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions.


Our Rehabilitation department is based upon the multi-disciplinary team approach. It is the goal of our physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists to evaluate and establish a treatment plan with one goal in mind--that the patient achieve the highest level of functioning possible to resume a more active and productive lifestyle.


NMMC Respiratory Therapists provide dedicated coverage for Adult Intensive Care, a Pulmonary specialty floor, the Emergency Department, the NICU, PICU, Pediatrics, Critical Care Stepdown Unit and overflow ICU through traditional and non-conventional ventilation procedures with state-of-the-art equipment.
