| NMMC's Cancer
Center offers a variety of support groups for cancer patients and their
families. These groups allow cancer patients the opportunity to
share common experiences, problems and solutions. They also
provide an avenue for patients to talk confidentially with others who
are coping with and surviving cancer. Look Good, Feel Better
helps female cancer patients enhance their appearance after undergoing
radiation and chemotherapy |

| treatments. Patients learn to use
make-up, wigs and other accessories to enhance self-image, confidence and
sense of control. Man to Man is designed to help
men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families find answers to
common questions and concerns.
United Ostomy Association Support Group offers
educational materials for new ostomates and family members and provides
interaction with NMMC enterostomal therapists.
Reach to Recovery helps women
with breast cancer meet the physical, emotional and cosmetic needs
related to their disease and its treatment. It also provides
information and support to loved ones and friends. This program
works through carefully selected and trained American Cancer Society
volunteers who have fully adjusted to their surgery.
Camp Bluebird is a three-day
camp for cancer survivors.

"Life After
Diagnosis" is a five-week series of community programs for women
diagnosed with breast cancer. Sponsored by NMMC's Breast Care Center
and Cancer Center, programs provide education and emotional support from
health care providers and breast cancer survivors. Women can join the program at any point during
the series. |
Cancer Support
Group is a general support group for all cancer patients. The group meets
monthly at the Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Longtown Medical
Park. Programs offer educational
sessions with topics varying from exercise to laughter therapy in
addition to personal sharing time. Lunch
is provided.
Gray Matters, a brain tumor
support group, addresses all the associated features of the illness,
including problems it may cause with memory, speech, sensation and
perception; seizures; a particular tumor's life-threatening nature;
and the variety of personality and behavior changes one may experience.
Meetings are held monthly at the NMMC Cancer Center.
