North Mississippi Medical Center’s cancer team is multidisciplinary, including surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists and medical oncologists. These physicians, along with other members of the support team, work together to provide the best cancer care possible.

Medical Oncology

 

Dr. Charles Montgomery photo


Charles W. Montgomery, M.D.
Dr. Montgomery has served as a staff medical oncologist since 1979. He has also acted as medical director for NMMC Hospice, working with the hospital to establish the first Medicare-approved hospice in the state. He has served on the Medical Ethics Committee for NMMC and as chairman of the committee, and also as an associate investigator for the North Mississippi Clinical Community Oncology Program. Dr. Montgomery has been chairman of the Department of Medicine at NMMC and holds licensure in both Mississippi and Alabama.

 

Dr. Julian Hill photo


Julian B. Hill, M.D.

Dr. Hill joined the practice in 1982. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and obtained his doctorate at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He trained in internal medicine at the University of Texas and was a fellow in the Medicine Branch at the National Cancer Institute in the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Hill has kept abreast of current medical knowledge through course work with American Society of Clinical Oncology and, most recently, at Harvard University Medical School. He co-founded Health Link PPO and served as its chairman for many years. He has served as chairman of the Department of Medicine, chairman of the Medical Staff and chairman of the Credentials Committee at NMMC. He has published more than a dozen articles in abstracts and medical journals during his career. Dr. Hill also obtained a grant from the NIH that established the North Mississippi Clinical Community Oncology Program, which allowed more than 500 area patients to participate in NIH-approved clinical trials.

 

Dr. Andrew Kellum photo


Andrew H. Kellum, M.D.
Dr. Kellum has worked with the practice since 1989. Throughout his career, he has served as an instructor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, making presentations in the fields of hematology and oncology. He received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Vanderbilt University and a doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson.

Nikolaos Myriounis, M.D.

Dr. Myriounis received his medical education at the University of Athens School of Medicine in Athens, Greece. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Berkshire Medical Center, University of Massachusetts in Pittsfield. He completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Tufts University, in Brighton, Mass.

Jiahuai Tan, M.D.
Dr. Tan earned his doctorate at Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang, China. He completed his fellowship program in Hematology and Oncology at Karmanos Cancer Center, Detroit, Mich., and his internship at Mt. Vernon Hospital in affiliation with New York Medical Center. He has received several academic honors and was a research fellow at University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis.

Paschal Wilson, M.D.

Dr. Wilson completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, and his medical degree at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and his hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is board certified in medical oncology, and has worked in oncology since 2002.

Ashley Gilliland, NP-C

Gilliland graduated in 2008 from The University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She received her master's degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with emphasis as an Adult Primary Nurse Practitioner. She is board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of Oncology Nursing Society and Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology.

Tammy Pelegrin, FNP-BC

Pelegrin graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Mississippi.  She received a master's degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women as a Family Nurse Practitioner and she is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is an Adult Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association, Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Melinda Clark, FNP-BC

Clark received her bachelor's degree in nursing from South University in Savannah, Ga., and her master's degree in nursing as an adult acute care practitioner from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She recieved her post-master's certificate as a family nurse practitioner from South University. She is an advanced oncology certified nurse practitioner. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Mississippi Nurses Association.

Angie Taylor, FNP-BC, AGN-BC

Taylor received her bachelor's degree in science from Mississippi State University in Starkville. She received her bachelor's and master's degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. She is board-certified family nurse practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is also board certified in advanced genetics nursing.

 

Radiation Oncology

Ray Reed, M.D.

Dr. Reed, radiation oncologist, completed his medical training at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Reed joined the NMMC medical staff in 1993.

Dr. Hinton, radiation oncologist, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, and completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Morgan Barker, FNP-BC

Barker graduated from the University of North Alabama with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She received her master's degree in nursing with emphasis as a family nurse practitioner from Union University in Jackson, Tenn. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and she holds certification as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO).

 

Palliative Care

Lindsey Hinton, M.D.

Dr. Hinton will see patients at NMMC Hematology & Oncology who are undergoing cancer treatment. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Dr. Hinton received her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She went on to complete a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in palliative care at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. Dr. Hinton is board certified in internal medicine.

Palliative care is specialized medical care that focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness.
