North Mississippi Health Services is saddened by the death of Hank Boerner, who served as the director of the NMMC Wellness Center from 1992 until his death on Dec. 6, 2012. He considered our corporate mission his life’s work. He truly was devoted to improving the health of the people of our region.
His accomplishments were notable at the local and national level. During his tenure at NMMC, Hank helped the community add a skate park, three disc golf courses, a 5K cross country trail, two fitness trails and a fitness center at Tupelo High School. He also co-chaired the Healthy Tupelo Task Force to try to make Tupelo the healthiest city in Mississippi. The Medical Fitness Association recognized Hank with the 2011 Pioneer Award for significantly advancing the medical fitness industry and awarded him MFA’s Don Schneider Distinguished Service Award for exceptional, long-term volunteer service to the medical fitness industry. He was a tireless volunteer for numerous non-profit groups and associations dedicated to the betterment of area residents’ health. After three decades in the fitness industry, Hank continued to surf, skateboard, run, hike and promote non-traditional sports as a way to fulfill NMMC’s mission of improving the health of the people in our service area.
Hank will be greatly missed by his extended family at NMHS, the Wellness Center and the community, but your contributions to our community will not be forgotten.
