Cardiologists

Joseph Adams, M.D.

Dr. Joseph Adams graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in biology. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Adams is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 2003.

Barry Bertolet, M.D.

Dr. Barry Bertolet received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Mississippi. He completed his medical studies at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and his internship and residency at the University of Florida Health Services Center in Gainesville, where he also received postgraduate training in adult cardiology.

Dr. Bertolet is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 1998.

Benjamin Blossom, M.D.

Dr. Benjamin D. Blossom earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with minors in English and chemistry from the University of Mississippi in Oxford in 1997. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 2003 and completed residency training in internal medicine in 2006. He completed fellowship training in both cardiology and interventional cardiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Blossom is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2010.

William "Bo" Calhoun, M.D.

Dr. William "Bo" Calhoun earned a bachelor's degree in history from Louisiana State University and completed his medical training at LSU in 1989. He completed residency training in internal medicine at Shands Teaching Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of Florida at Gainesville. He completed fellowship training in cardiology at Shands Teaching Hospital, where he also served as chief cardiology fellow.

Dr. Calhoun is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiolgy and joined the NMMC medical staff in 1996.

Steve Carroll, M.D.

Dr. Steve Carroll earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Mississippi State University in Starkville in 1988. He graduated cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson in 2004 and completed an internal medicine residency in 2006.

He completed a cardiology fellowship from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, and is certified in nuclear cardiology. Dr. Carroll joined the NMMC medical staff in 2010.

Murray Estess, M.D.

Dr. Murray Estess received his bachelor's degree in biology from Delta State University and a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the Univeristy of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Virginia, where he also served as chief resident. He served a cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Dr. Estess is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2002.

Amit Gupta, M.D.

Dr. Amit Gupta received his medical training at Maulana Azad Medical College at the University of Delhi in New Delhi, India. He completed his internal medicine residency at State University of New York-Health Science Center in Brooklyn and served as chief resident in internal medicine at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. He completed a cardiology fellowship at State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center. He pursued additional training in coronary and peripheral vascular intervention at Baystate Medical Center/Tufts School of Medicine in Springfield, Mass.

Dr. Gupta is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is also certified in nuclear cardiology, He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He previously served as an internal medicine physician for several years and rejoined the NMMC medical staff as a cardiologist in 2007.

Douglas Hill, M.D.

Dr. Douglas Hill received a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Mississippi. He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, in Nashville, Tenn. He completed residency training at Duke University Department of Medicine in Durham, N.C., where he also served as assistant chief resident.

Dr.Hill is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine for internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 1999.

David Irwin, M.D.

Dr. David Irwin completed his undergraduate studies at Mississippi State University. He received his medical training at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed his internship and internal medicine residency at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, La. He also completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Irwin is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is also certified in cardiovascular computed tomography and nuclear cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 1978.

Jimmy Johnson, M.D.

Dr. Jimmy Johnson received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Mississippi State University. He completed his medical training at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also served a fellowship in cardiology at UMC.

Dr. Johnson is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 2000.

William Hampton Jones III, M.D.

Dr. Hamp Jones earned a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and received his medical training at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He completed a cardiology fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and an interventional cardiology fellowship at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz.

Dr. Jones is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine for internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 2004.

Nelson Little, M.D.

Dr. Nelson Little received his bachelor's degree from Delta State University and completed his medical training at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency, as well as his cardiology fellowship, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Little is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is also certified in cardiovascular computed tomography.. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 2003.

Francisco Sierra, M.D.

Dr. Francisco Sierra received his medical training from Honduras National University School of Medicine in Honduras. He completed his internal medicine residency and a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He also completed a cardiovascular disease non-invasive fellowship at Harvard Medical School and a vascular medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Dr. Sierra is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine for cardiovascular disease. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2004.

Roger Williams, M.D.

Dr. Williams received a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Louisiana State University and earned his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency as well as his cardiology fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Dr. Williams is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 1999.

Electrophysiologists

Karl Crossen, M.D.

Dr.Karl Crossen received a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He completed his medical studies at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, and his internal medicine internship and residency at Washington University School of Medicine, where he also served as chief medical resident and completed cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships.

Dr.Crossen is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 1998.

Keith Kyker, M.D.

Dr. Keith Kyker received his bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He completed his medical training at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and his internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He also completed a cardiovascular disease and an electrophysiology fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Dr. Kyker is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2005.

James E. "Jim" Stone Jr., M.D.

Dr. James E. "Jim" Stone received a bachelor's degree in physics from Mississippi State University. He completed his medical studies at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also completed cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships at Wake Forest University Medical Center/North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Stone is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and joined the NMMC medical staff in 1999.

Cardiothoracic Surgeons

Judah Askew, M.D.

Dr. Judah Askew earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Portland State University Honors College. He completed his medical training at the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine in Portland, and his general surgery residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Mass. He then completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Askew is board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, and is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2011.

 

Robert J. Derveloy III, M.D.

Dr. Robert Derveloy completed his undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He received his medical training at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, where he also completed his general surgery residency and cardiovascular surgery fellowship. He completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.

Dr. Derveloy is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2003.

Vishal Sachdev, M.D.

Dr. Vishal Sachdev is a graduate of Louisiana State University and received his medical training at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his general surgery internship and residency as well as a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Sachdev is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and endovascular boarded by the American Board of Vascular Medicine.. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2000.

David Talton, M.D.

Dr. David Talton received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from North Carolina State University. He completed his medical studies at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., and his cardiothoracic and general surgery residencies at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Talton is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, and he is an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 1997.
