Since 2003, North Mississippi Medical Center’s Honor Guard has been performing flag ceremonies and postings, half-mast ceremonies, ceremonial guard station, Christmas parade color guard, and flag etiquette classes for schools and scout groups.
The Honor Guard is also available for retirement celebrations, sporting events, festivals and other special events, conferences, grand openings and other honorable ceremonies.
Funding for the Honor Guard is provided by the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi. In addition to paying for volunteers’ uniforms and travel expenses, the Health Care Foundation also sends new members through the extensive training course at the National Honor Guard Academy.
The NMMC Honor Guard provides several services for funerals of NMMC employees, including casket guard, pallbearers, escort, and flag service and presentation and Taps for employees that are veterans. The unit can also provide flag folding services for local funeral homes for veterans when military honor units are not available.
