Having a baby is an experience surrounded with excitement and anticipation, but without the proper education, apprehension and nervousness can creep in.
This concern can be alleviated with the proper understanding of pregnancy, labor and delivery, and caring for your newborn. That’s why North Mississippi Medical Center-Iuka has designed a six-week Prepared Childbirth course specifically for expectant parents. You should attend during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy for optimum learning. Any support person who will go through the delivery with you is encouraged to attend as well.
The Prepared Childbirth classes are taught by a registered nurse who is certified in childbirth education. She has been educating expectant parents for more than 19 years.
The class covers many subjects, including breast-feeding and methods of initiating emotional rapport with your new baby. Other topics include:
Conditioning, relaxation and breathing techniques are taught and practiced as an integral part of these classes.
The Prepared Childbirth classes meet for six consecutive weeks. Classes are held in the NMMC-Iuka Education Room #1.
The first class in each series will be held on a Monday night from 7-9 p.m., and the rest of the class times are flexible and will be determined at the first class. New classes start each January, April, June and September.
A fee of $45 per expectant mother, payable in advance, includes all instructional materials. Pre-registration is preferred but registration will be accepted the first class meeting.
