NMMC-PONTOTOC SENDS AMBULANCE CREW FOR HURRICANE AID

WEST POINT, Miss.—Two emergency medical technicians from North Mississippi Medical Center-Pontotoc were part of a contingent from the organization that went to the Gulf Coast last week to help evacuate patients in the path of Hurricane Ivan.

Paramedic Heath Williams and Brian McCarty, EMT-Basic, headed to the Gulf Coast last Tuesday night to help with emergency calls and, if necessary, to help evacuate stretcher-bound patients in the path of the hurricane.

Originally, they were called on to help move patients from 28 hospitals and assisted living facilities on the Gulf Coast to various hospitals and facilities in the central region of Mississippi before the hurricane hit. However, when they arrived, officials asked them instead to help with emergency calls in the Gulfport area. They then provided emergency aid following the hurricane.
