FOUNDATION HELPS SALTILLO STUDENTS

LAUNCH HEALTH CAREERS

TUPELO, Miss.—Two Saltillo students are the most recent recipients of Dr. P.K. Thomas Jr. Educational Endowment Scholarships. Each student received a $2,800 scholarship to pursue an associate’s degree in nursing.

Dr. Thomas was a highly respected physician who practiced medicine in Tupelo for 37 years. In exchange for the scholarship, recipients agree to work for North Mississippi Medical Center after graduation.

Micaiah Sullivan is a 2004 graduate of Saltillo High School and completed prerequisite requirements at Itawamba Community College during the summer in order to join the freshman nursing class this fall. After graduating in May 2006 with an associate’s degree in nursing, Sullivan will complete the licensing examination to become a registered nurse and join the NMMC staff.

Lauren Morris earned a master’s degree in counseling from Western State College in Colorado and has enjoyed a successful career as a professional counselor. She is pursuing a second career as a registered nurse and is currently taking classes at Itawamba Community College. Morris will graduate in May 2006 and will complete the licensing examination to become a registered nurse and join the NMMC staff.

The endowed scholarship fund was established by the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi in 1998 to provide scholarships for individuals who aspire to careers in health care. For more information, call (662) 377-3613 or 1-800-THE DESK (1-800-843-3375).
