Cutline:
Renee Pierce, a registered nurse in the
neonatal intensive care unit of the North Mississippi Medical Center Women’s
Hospital, talks with area students about opportunities in nursing during NMMC’s
third annual Nurse Expo held Nov. 14 at the Lee County Agricenter. Exhibits
featured information from area nursing schools and various NMMC nursing
specialty units such as trauma, aeromedical services, surgery, oncology,
pediatrics and neurology. Students also took advantage of educational sessions
demonstrating how nurses use skills such as intubation, cardiac pacing,
ventilation, chest tube insertion, surgical techniques and trauma care for
patients. In light of a nationwide nursing shortage, local organizers hope
Nurse Expo will encourage more individuals to consider a career in nursing.
