SPIRIT OF WOMEN GETAWAY
TUPELO, Miss.—Treat the special women in your life to a getaway, and they won’t have to venture far from home to enjoy it.
North Mississippi Medical Center and BancorpSouth are sponsoring the first Spirit of Women Getaway Jan. 14-15 at the BancorpSouth Center. The weekend will feature a Friday evening concert by country recording artist Kathy Mattea, the national Red Dress Collection, fashion shows, a cooking demonstration and scores of fun and informative booths and educational sessions.
Exhibits open at 6 p.m. Friday, culminating that evening with the 8 p.m. concert. Mattea’s first hit came in 1986 with “Love At The Five and Dime.” Her 20-year career includes such Top 10 songs as “Where’ve You Been,” “Life As We Knew It,” “Walk the Way the Wind Blows,” “Come From The Heart” and “Walking Away A Winner.”
Mattea has won two Grammy awards, two Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year awards and her song, “Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses,” was named CMA Single of the Year.
Vendors will be on hand from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday offering everything from manicures to merchandise to makeovers. Organizers plan to feature a good mix of health-related exhibits and others that are purely for fun.
A highlight of the weekend is the national Red Dress Collection featuring dresses by designers Carmen Marc Valva, Esteban Cortazar, Luca Luca and Nicole Miller. The Red Dress symbol links a woman’s focus on her “outer self” to the need to also focus on her “inner self,” especially heart health. NMMC will give each attendee a complimentary Red Dress pin.
For the keynote address that Saturday, NMMC cardiologist Barry Bertolet, M.D., will present “The Heart Truth for Women” at 11 a.m. A healthy cooking demonstration by Mac McAllister, general manager of Tupelo Country Club and a registered dietitian, will follow at 1 p.m. Other Saturday events include fashion shows, musical entertainment, and programs on topics ranging from plastic surgery and stress management to scrapbooking and investments.
Tickets for the Spirit of Women Getaway are $25 for the weekend or $15 for Saturday only. Tickets are available at the BancorpSouth Center Box Office and all Ticket King locations, charge by phone at 841-6528 or online at www.bancorpsouthcenter.com. Tickets are also available at North Mississippi Medical Center Women’s Hospital and NMMC Wellness Center in Tupelo. For more information, call 1-800-THE DESK (1-800-843-3375).
