Nursing Excellence Awards

Brandy Clark of Smithville received the Unit Coordinator Excellence Award. Clark has been an NMMC employee for four years, and she serves as unit coordinator for 3 West. She has an associate’s degree in health information technology. Clark regularly participates in Relay for Life and Race for the Cure.

 

 

Kelli Watson of Hamilton, Ala. received the Nursing Assistant Excellence Award. An NMMC employee for 11 years, Watson is a nursing assistant on 3 North. She and her husband Philip are members of Pleasant Site Free Will Baptist Church.

 

 

 

Judy Herring, CLPN, of Smithville, received the CLPN/LPN Excellence Award. An NMMC employee for 25 years, Herring serves as a certified licensed practical nurse at NMMC Women’s Hospital. She completed the LPN program at Itawamba Community College in 1981. She has three adult children – Cyndi Stanford, Candi Gillentine and Chris Herring. Herring attends First Assembly of God in Amory.

 

Elizabeth Denson, RN, BSN, received the Excellence in Community Service Award. An NMMC employee for 17 years, Denson serves as an NMMC Home Health resource nurse. She received her associate’s degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College, and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama, where she graduated cum laude. In 2003, she received a National Gerontological Nurse Certification. In 2008 she received a master’s degree in information systems management with an emphasis in health information from the Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University, where she graduated with distinction. She participates in community health fairs and serves as a resource nurse for her community and church. She has two adult children, Howard and LaShaunda, and three grandchildren – 6-year-old Malachi, 3-year-old Kameron and 5-year-old Katelyn. Denson attends Miracle Revival Center where she has held several leadership positions within the church.

Della Perry received the Nurse Technician Excellence Award. An NMMC employee for 35 years, Perry serves as an operating room technologist. She has also served as a nursing aide, dialysis technician, instrument technician and a transporter in her years at NMMC. She and her husband, the Rev. Billy Perry, live in Verona and have six children – Eddie, Thomas, Robert, Valerie, Donnica and Reggie. They also have 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family attends Snowtown United Methodist Church in Shannon where the Rev. Perry is the pastor. Perry also regularly volunteers for Camp Bluebird and Race for the Cure.

 

Mary Ann Posey, RN, received the Rookie Excellence Award. An NMMC employee for 11 months, Posey is a nurse in pediatrics. The Amory resident received her associate’s degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College. She and her husband James have two children, 15-year-old Justin and 12-year-old Hannah. The family attends Cason Baptist Church, where Posey serves on the youth council and the Bus Ministry/Children’s Church.

 

Linda Shields, RN, of Fulton, received the Excellence in Mentorship Award. Shields, who is a care manager for NMMC’s Home Health Fulton branch, has been employed by NMMC for 20 years. She began at NMMC as a nursing assistant when she was working toward her associate’s degree in nursing at Itawamba Community College. She has three children – Nick, 26, Cole, 22 and Lindsey, 16.

 

 

Angela Coggins, RN, MSN, of Tupelo, received the Excellence in Education Award. An NMMC employee for 16 years, Coggins serves as nursing educator and infection control coordinator for NMMC Home Health and Hospice. She received her associate’s degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College, and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama. She recently received her master’s degree in nursing from Delta State University. She and her husband Ronald have two children – 8-year-old Cody and 7-year-old Claire. The family attends Harrisburg Baptist Church. Coggins is active in Tupelo Park and Recreation and volunteers for the Antone Tannehill Good Samaritan Free Clinic. She participates in Spirit of Women, Race for the Cure and Project Hope, among other community activities.

 

Stephanie Inmon, RN, received the Outcomes Improvement Excellence Award. An employee for 16 years, Inmon serves as a care manager for NMMC Home Health. She previously worked on NMMC's neurology floor before transferring to Home Health in 1994. She and her husband Glen live in Pontotoc and have three sons – Barron, Reed and Hayden. The family attends First Baptist Church in Pontotoc.

 

 

Betty Thornton of Baldwyn received the Excellence in Advanced Practice Award. An NMMC employee for 30 years, Thornton serves as a certified nurse practitioner at Baldwyn Nursing Facility.

 

 

Marie Dendy, RN, of Ackerman, received the RN Excellence Award. Dendy works for NMMC’s Home Health Eupora branch, and has been employed by NMMC for more than 13 years. She is a veteran of the United States Navy Vietnam Era Hospital Corpsman. She received her nursing degree from Eastern New Mexico University. She serves as a camp nurse each summer for Camp of the Rising Son, a Christian camp for 7-12 year olds. She teaches basic first aid and CPR in her community and serves as a Relay for Life team captain each year. She and her husband Dusty have two children – Ryan and Tracy. They also have three grandchildren – 8-year-old Bryce, 15-month-old Blake and 9-month old Hayden.

 

Leila Phillips, RN, of Mooreville, received the Excellence in Leadership Award. An NMMC employee for 27 years, Phillips works as a supervisor in nursing support. She received an associate’s degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College, and is currently working toward her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama. Phillips is engaged to Rob Kendrick. She is active in Spirit of Women and Mississippi Nurses Association, and volunteers for Sanctuary Hospice House. She is a member of Belden Baptist Church.
