IN AN EFFORT TO BE MORE OPEN WITH YOU, we will be doing things a little differently here at
North Mississippi Medical Center. One of the first visible changes will be a series of “Open Letters to the Community” that will be published in the newspaper. We intend to do this on a bi-weekly basis initially, but will alter the schedule depending on the number of issues and your needs for information.

In this first letter, we would like to address some of the major issues which have arisen recently.

CONSTRUCTION:
We will be taking a one year break from our external construction projects except for the following which are already underway or for which commitments have already been made:

• The north parking garage
• Completion of the Women’s Hospital Expansion
• The radiology JV

LEGISLATIVE ISSUES:
We are developing a plan of action in conjunction with area legislators and will be meeting with them periodically to discuss our progress. This is in response to the concerns you have expressed to them that we have lost touch with our community.

COMMUNICATION/OPENNESS:
We are developing a report card to communicate things happening at our organization. One component of that will be a balanced scorecard which documents our goals and tracks our progress based on our Critical Success Factors Categories of People, Service, Quality, Financial and Growth. We are currently developing the specific goals and indicators for fiscal year 2005 and we will share those with you in the very near future.

NFP LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT:
Next week’s letter will be solely devoted to giving more details relative to the Scruggs’ lawsuit settlement process. We anticipate that the Federal judge will hear this some time in January or February 2005.

THANK YOU for your continued support. We are confident that with your help and support we will become a better organization. If you have issues or concerns you would like to discuss, please feel free to call our community advocate line at 1-800-453-7533.
