North Mississippi Medical Center has adopted a stance against smoking because of potential health hazards. The use of tobacco in any form is not permitted in any NMMC facility or on the grounds of the medical center's facilities, except at designated outdoor smoking areas.
Weapons and alcoholic beverages are not permitted on hospital property. Visitors who have these items in their possession or display disruptive behavior will be escorted off hospital property.
For your protection, all jewelry and money (other than small change) should be left at home. NMMC is not responsible for any loss of money or valuables left in a patient's room. Items such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, dentures and hearing aids should be stored in a proper container when not in use.
The Security Department has a safe available for limited safekeeping of your valuables. Your nurse can give you additional information and also assist you with safeguarding your valuables. You may call the Security Department at extension 3064 at any time to request that valuables be retrieved by a security officer. Only the designated responsible party has the authority to claim valuables.
At NMMC, we work diligently to prevent the spread of germs within the hospital. Germs are found in blood, urine, stool, lung secretions and wound drainage. Germs can be spread by the hands of patients, visitors and hospital personnel. Hand washing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs.
Universal precautions are used in each hospital room at NMMC to help prevent the spread of germs. Universal precautions may involve the use of gloves, goggles, gowns or masks. Remember that by observing hand washing procedures and cooperating with universal precautions, you help us to prevent the spread of germs. It is our goal to make your stay at NMMC as short and as pleasant as possible.
