Womens' Hospital Patient Guide

Identification Bracelet

Once you are placed in a room upon admission, you will have a plastic identification bracelet placed on your wrist at admission. Please leave the bracelet on throughout your hospital stay. If you are having a baby, another bracelet will be placed on your wrist in Delivery. This band number matches the number on your baby's identification band.

Cafe Express

Cafe Express is located in the main lobby area of the Women's Hospital and is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cafe Express provides breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and beverages.

Dinner For Two

Gift Certificates for a special "Dinner for Two" may be purchased by you, a family member or a friend in Cafe Express. These elegant dinners prepared by our Food and Nutrition Services are served in your room and feature a selection of delicious entrees and sparkling grape juice.

Tours of the Women's Hospital are available and can be arranged by calling 1-800-THE-DESK (1-800-843-3375).

Patient Education

Classes and seminars on various women's health topics are offered through the hospital's Education Department. Class dates and times are available by calling 1-800-THE-DESK (1-800-843-3375). During your hospital stay, you are encouraged to learn about newborn care on the hospital's closed circuit television Channel 58 (English) and Channel 59 (Spanish).

Visitation

Visitors should enter through the main lobby. Information concerning patients' rooms may be obtained at the Admission Desk or from Ambassador Services.

Babies feeding times are 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. Three adult visitors including the father are allowed during babies' feedings.

Visitation is limited in the labor rooms. Visitors may be asked to leave when physicians are visiting patients. Siblings may visit at any time if they are in good health.

Labor & Delivery

  • Two visitors are allowed n the labor room during the labor process.
  • Siblings may visit with the mother during labor, but no other children under age 12 are permitted to visit.
  • Visitors may wait in the lobby or dining areas. Guests may not congregate in the hallway that leads from the admissions lobby to the labor rooms, in order to protect patient privacy and to keep this area open for room access.
  • With physician consent, the father or other support person may be present during delivery. Only one support person may be in the operating room if a C-section is required.
  • During special procedures, such as placement of an epidural, all visitors may be asked to leave the room. Your nurse will notify visitors when it is appropriate to return.
  • The father or other support person may be asked to leave the labor room if the nurse or physician deem it necessary for the well-being of the mother or baby.
  • Adults and siblings who are not ill may visit the mother and newborn during the recovery period, at your nurses' discretion.

Post Partum Unit

  • Visiting hours are from 10:00 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
  • Siblings may visit the mother, even when the baby is in the room, but no other children under the age of 12 are permitted to visit.
  • Only three adult visitors, including the father, are allowed in the mother's room when the baby is present.

Nursery/NICU

Parents of infants who are unable to leave the nursery to feed or visit are encouraged to visit the baby in the nursery. Special instructions regarding nursery visitation will be provided to these parents.
