Unique Opportunity for Physician Leaders

Dear Colleagues,


North Mississippi Health Services is now accepting applications for the 2013 Physician Leadership Institute. The purpose of this endeavor is to provide an opportunity for physicians to gain a greater understanding of our healthcare system, its mission and its actual operation. It will also provide physicians additional skill sets in the areas of leadership, finance, strategic planning, operations and the medico-legal aspects of healthcare.

As the healthcare environment continues to evolve, physician and hospital engagement and collaboration are imperative for mutual success. This program is a valuable opportunity to foster these objectives and, at the same time, enable physicians to acquire skills that will be useful in our offices and other settings. Our top leadership will be participating in the program and will contribute their time and expertise on their areas of responsibility. Doubtless, these very leaders will benefit from this activity as well as we discuss mutual challenges and opportunities.

The Physician Leadership Institute represents a significant investment by the organization. The instructors, books and other materials will all be provided. We anticipate a class size of 10-12 physicians and the format will be a Saturday day session once a month for six months. Sessions will be held on the first Saturday of each month from January until June 2013.


There will be projects and related activities between each didactic session. The Education Department's staff will also be giving their time on the weekends to help assure the success of the program.

In order to achieve our goals, the interested physician will need to attend all six sessions. As part of the application process, we will also ask for affirmation of the support of the physician’s group so that call duties and similar responsibilities will not interfere with this commitment. We’re excited about this opportunity and encourage you to consider and apply for this program. As physicians assume more informal and formal leadership and management roles in our organization, the value of this program cannot be overstated. Both of us are available for questions.
