Purpose &
Goals Our mission at NMMC's foot center is to provide optimum care for the
foot. This includes issues associated with the insensate foot as
well as biomechanical deficits. Our approach includes a
multidisciplinary team whose purpose is to prevent and treat
complications of the foot. The following components are addressed
during a typical evaluation:
Identification of
biomechanical deficits in association with neurological,
orthopedic or sports related injuries
Identification
of vascular problems
Immediate
diagnosis of foot lesions
Patient
education in foot care
Control
of risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure
and high cholesterol
Recommendation of
protective
foot wear
Professional
foot care of corns, calluses and toenails
Goals
Patient will receive
a comprehensive foot assessment.
Patient will receive
further diagnostic testing and treatment as recommended by the
referring physician.
Patient will be able
to demonstrate and verbalize proper care for the endangered
foot.
Patient’s
ulcerations will heal in a reasonable time through appropriate
treatment.
Patient will have
nail, corn and callus care as needed and demonstrate the ability
to manage simple foot problems.
Patient will obtain
or be advised on supportive and pressure-relieving footwear as
needed.
Reduce lower
extremity amputations secondary to preventable foot ulceration
Patient will receive
continuing education regarding diabetic or insensate foot care
as needed.
Reduce painful
conditions associated with biomechanical deficits through proper
orthotic fabrications/fitting.

Our Staff The staff of NMMC’s Foot Center has received comprehensive
training in the assessment and treatment of both acute and chronic foot
problems. Our staff includes a certified pedorthist and a certified
wound care specialist.
