Purpose
After being diagnosed with osteoporosis, it is important to educate
oneself regarding:
 |
Proper
exercise |
 |
Decreasing
your risk of broken bones |
 |
Making
your home a safe environment |
At North Mississippi
Medical Center’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, we can assist
persons with osteoporosis.
Goal
Instruction on proper exercise is given by a licensed therapist, who
is trained in managing patients with osteoporosis. This is important
because certain exercises can put you at greater risk for broken bones.
Education concerning home safety as well as how to perform daily
activities safely is of major importance.
Who Can Benefit?
Physician referral is indicated for patients who have been diagnosed with
osteoporosis. Osteoporosis, the most common disease affecting bones, is a
decrease in normal bone density which makes a person more susceptible to
fractures or broken bones. It affects more than 25 million people
annually, most of them women.
A video for at-home
use has also been created to assist patients after discharge from the
program.
