Meet our Surgeons

Dr. Carol Bevering

Carl Bevering III, M.D., FAANS: Received his medical training at the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City. He completed his general surgery internship and neurosurgery residency at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Dr. Bevering is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2002.

Dr. Walter Eckman

Walter Eckman, M.D.: Completed his medical training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and his fellowship at Stanford University Hospital. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 1985.

Dr. Hunt Bobo


R. Hunt Bobo, M.D.: Completed his medical training at Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and neurosurgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he also served as chief resident. After residency Dr. Bobo was a Senior Investigator in the Surgical Neurology Branch at the NIH. He completed a neuro-oncology fellowship at Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. Dr. Bobo is a clinical associate professor of neurosurgery at UMMC. He is board certified in neurological surgery. Dr. Bobo is a member of the Southern Neurological Society and a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 2003.

Dr. Lou Rosa


Louis Rosa, III, M.D., FACS: Received his medical training at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Following a surgical internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., Dr. Rosa returned to Georgetown University School of Medicine for his neurosurgery residency. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He joined the NMMC medical staff in 1999.

Dr. Elbert White


Elbert A. White IV, M.D., FACS: Dr. White is a native of Corinth, Miss. He is board-certified in neurological surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine after graduating from Millsaps College. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at the V.A. Hospital in Jackson and serve as chief resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He is a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. His interests include minimally invasive spine surgery and geriatric spine surgery.
