No matter how
challenging, caregivers need to remember: It's not
falling apart. To help maintain perspective, caregivers
every day should appreciate something of strength and
beauty in themselves and in the person for whom they are
caring. Here are some suggestions:
|
|
1. |
Take a break. Listen to music or even sing out loud. Or
take a walk in nature-listen, look breathe. |
|
2. |
Treat yourself to something you enjoy and definitely
deserve. |
|
3. |
When times get especially stressful or overwhelming,
take a time out. Change scenery for a while - walk
outside or into another room. |
|
4. |
Spend time with a small child. |
|
5. |
Focus on what is, not what isn't. Don't worry about
"what if" |
|
6. |
Give a long hug to someone you care about. |
|
7. |
Start a journal or a daily list of things that are
beautiful in your life. |
|
8. |
Make time for friends. |
|
9. |
Slow down. You may actually get more done. |
|
10. |
Ask for help when you need it. Be specific about what
you need. |
