SPIRIT OF WOMEN
GETAWAY CHANGED TO
ONE-DAY EVENT AT BANCORPSOUTH CENTER
TUPELO,
Miss.-Organizers announced Wednesday that the Spirit of Women
Getaway weekend event has been changed to Saturday only, Jan.
15.
Sponsored by North Mississippi Medical Center and BancorpSouth,
the event will be held at the BancorpSouth Center. Plans
originally called for a Friday evening concert by country
recording artist Kathy Mattea, along with other Friday night
exhibits and activities. Refunds are available at the point of
purchase.
The event will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, and
feature the national Red Dress Collection, fashion shows, a
cooking demonstration and scores of fun and informative booths
and educational sessions-some health-related and others purely
for fun. Participants will also be treated to fashion shows by
Reed's, Parisian and McKinney's Unique Fashions.
A highlight of the weekend is the national Red Dress Collection
featuring dresses by designers Carmen Marc Valva, Esteban
Cortazar, Luca Luca and Nicole Miller. The Red Dress symbol
links a woman's focus on her "outer self" to the need to also
focus on her "inner self," especially heart health. NMMC will
give each attendee a complimentary Red Dress pin.
For the keynote address, NMMC cardiologist Barry Bertolet, M.D.,
will present "Dying to Be First: Heart Disease in Mississippi
Women" at 11 a.m. A healthy cooking demonstration by Mac
McAllister, general manager of Tupelo Country Club and a
registered dietitian, will follow at 1 p.m.
Several concurrent educational sessions are scheduled throughout
the day. Morning topics include "Help! I'm Out of Control:
Stress Management," "Separating Illusion from Reality: Women and
Investing," "Living the Lean Life: Nutrition Information That
Finally Makes Sense" and "Hot, Hot, Hot: Managing Menopause."
Afternoon sessions include "Facts of Midlife: Management of
Female Changes, Overactive Bladder," "Flight of the Stork: 10
Steps to a Healthy Pregnancy," "Keep the Drive Alive: Intimacy
and Relationships," "Move it to Lose It: Exercises Anyone Can
Do," "Anything's Possible: Plastic Surgery Options" and
"Preserve Those Memories: Introduction to Scrapbooking."
During the special getaway weekend, women can join Spirit of
Women for only $5, half-off the usual membership fee. Spirit of
Women is a national movement in women's wellness led by local
hospitals like NMMC and supported by corporate partners and
national media. Members receive news bulletins with special
