Telehealth Services

Tired of driving so far for specialty appointments?

Try Telehealth!

Join the ranks of patients who prefer the convenience of telehealth appointments.

Telehealth is an exciting new technology adopted by North Mississippi Medical Center to better serve our patients, especially those in rural areas. Telehealth makes it possible for patients to see specialty providers in their own community, which saves the patient time, travel and child care expenses.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is a way for doctors, nurses and other health care experts to provide real-time, face-to-face care when they are located at a site far from the patient. The patient gets the specialized care needed without having to travel long distances and is offered earlier access to appointments.

Where is Telehealth?

North Mississippi Medical Center has several telehealth sites in northeast and central Mississippi, and we are continuing to expand. To see a map of all locations, click here.

How does Telehealth work?

The patient will present to his/her local clinic or hospital, just as like for a normal appointment. The local health care provider’s nurse will accompany the patient to the telehealth exam room and will gather information to assist the provider during the visit. The provider will initiate the visit once the nurse has completed patient history, blood pressure, temperature, etc.

Does insurance cover?

In almost every case, health insurance coverage includes telehealth. Telehealth care charges apply to insurance and co-pay and deductible just like any other medical service.

North Mississippi Health Services is part of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Telemedicine Network.

Is my privacy safe?

Yes. A telehealth consult is treated with the same attention to privacy and confidentiality as face-to-face care. It follows the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) rules. The consult is done through a secure and private live video feed that is not saved and can never be replayed.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Referral from a primary care provider is necessary to see many specialists. Ask your provider about the possibility of telehealth for your health care needs. Once referred, the specialty clinic will contact you to set up the appointment at the nearest telehealth site.
