Vivian Rogers, DNP, NP-C, CBN: Eearned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2008 from the University of North Alabama at Florence, and her master’s degree in nursing with honors from South University in Savannah, Ga. She completed the doctoral program in nursing at the University of South Alabama in Mobile and attained bariatric nurse certification through the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Rogers serves as program director for the NMMC Bariatric Center.

 

Behavioral Health Counseling


 

Mae Grace Arrington, LCSW: has been working in the mental health field since 1989. She is a certified alcohol and drug counselor and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2011. She obtained her master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has years of experience in psychiatric as well as chemical dependency (inpatient and outpatient) counseling services. Her focus areas include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress management, marital and couples counseling, amd facilitating chemical dependency groups.

 

 

Susan Hyatt, Ph.D.: provides counseling for children and adolescents ages 6-18. She holds a doctoral degree in school psychology and specializes in treating depression, anxiety, behavioral disorders, stress and family relationship difficulties. She has been employed by the NMMC Behavioral Health Center since 1990.

 

Diabetes

 

 

Lakesha Butler, NP-BC: Earned her associate's degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus and her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Butler completed her master's degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

 

Leslie Hale, NP-BC: Earned her associate's degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College. She completed her bachelor's degree in nursing at Mississippi University for Women, where she also completed her master's degree and her family nurse practitioner certification. She is also a certified diabetes educator.

 

Tandalaya Traylor, CFNP: Completed her bachelor's degree in nursing at the University of North Alabama in Florence and her master's degree at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss. She is a recipient of the 2014 Top Performer in Diabetes Mellitus Award for the NMMC clinic system. She currently serves as an American Diabetes Association (ADA) Education Recognized Program Auditor, ADA program coordinator for the Diabetes Treatment Center and a member of the ADA organization.

 

 

Electrophysiology

 

 

Karl Crossen, M.D.: Received a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He completed his medical studies at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, and his internal medicine internship and residency at Washington University School of Medicine, where he also served as chief medical resident and completed cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships. Dr. Crossen is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

 

 

Karthik Venkatesh Prasad, M.D.: Received his bachelor’s degrees in medicine and surgery from J.J.M. Medical College in Davangere, India, and completed residency training in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at the Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Mo. He subsequently completed a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. Dr. Prasad is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases, and is board-eligible in cardiac electrophysiology.

 


James E. "Jim" Stone Jr., M.D. Received a bachelor's degree in physics from Mississippi State University. He completed his medical studies at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also completed cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships at Wake Forest University Medical Center/North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Dr. Stone is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

 

Genetic Counseling

 

 

Angie Taylor, FNP-BC, AGN-BCReceived her bachelor's degree in science from Mississippi State University in Starkville. She received her bachelor's and master's degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. She is board-certified family nurse practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is also board certified in advanced genetics nursing.

 

Geriatrics

 

 

C. Lee Greer, M.D.: Graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He completed his medical studies at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.He completed his family medicine residency at the University of Tennessee in Jackson, where he served as chief resident. He completed his geriatric medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2009, he earned an MBA from Yale University. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Greer serves as the Chief Quality and Safety Officer for North Mississippi Health Services. He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, American Medical Association, Northeast Mississippi Medical Society, Mississippi State Medical Association and the American College of Physician Executives. He is also a current member of the Board of Directors for the Institute for Quality in Healthcare.

 

Infectious Disease

 

 

Shannon Fryery, FNP-BC: Holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi. In addition to treating infectious disease patients, she serves as director of NMMC's Telehealth program.

 

Orthopaedic Trauma/Fragility Fractures

 

 

Amy Ballard, MPAS, PA-C:  Graduated in 2002 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Physician Assistant Program. Prior to physician assistant training she worked as a licensed physical therapist assistant for four years. She has served as president of the Mississippi Association of Physician Assistants and in various leadership roles at NMMC.

 

Psychiatry

 

 

Sarker Aleem, M.D.: Received his medical degree at Dhaka Medical College in Bangladesh. He completed a psychiatry residency and an addiction psychiatry fellowship, and is a board-certified adult psychiatrist. He is certified in psychoanalysis and is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has worked as a psychiatrist for 22 years, and previously practiced internal medicine for 10 years.

 

 

Aracelis Lu Brea, M.D.: Received her medical degree from UNIBE School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where she graduated magna cum laude. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is board certified. She completed her residency in psychiatry at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center at Weill Cornell Medical College in Bronx, N.Y., where she served as chief resident. She focuses on women’s health.

 

 

Demetrio Prota, M.D.: Received his medical degree from the UNIBE School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He completed a psychiatry residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center at Weill Cornell Medical College in Bronx, N.Y., where he served as chief resident. He recently completed a fellowship in electroconvulsive therapy at the university of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Dr. Prota is fluent in Spanish.

Rhonda Von Strahl, AGPCNP-BC: Received an associate’s degree in nursing from Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. She completed a master’s degree in nursing and her Adult Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

 

 

Vanessa Winter, FNP-BC: Received her nursing degree and family nurse practitioner training from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. She is a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association.
