Wheelchair Seating Clinic

Purpose

Our mission at the Wheelchair Seating Clinic is to provide clients with a comprehensive clinic in a convenient setting. We will provide evaluation and recommendation for the client's wheelchair equipment needs including positioning devices, cushions and modifications. A qualified therapist will also monitor skin integrity.

Goals

Our goals are to:

  • Provide a comprehensive evaluation for clients who are required to spend more than four hours a day in a wheelchair
  • Make necessary modifications to our client's existing wheelchair and/or cushion
  • Provide the client with periodic re-evaluations to determine if existing equipment should be upgraded
  • Monitor changes in skin integrity caused by prolonged sitting
  • Provide the client and caregivers with education regarding management of wheelchair equipment, skin care and positioning alternatives
  • Provide emotional support and a link to community resources
