Gestational
Diabetes Care
The NMMC Diabetes
Treatment Center helps not only women who already have diabetes when they
become pregnant, but also women who develop gestational diabetes from the
hormonal stress of pregnancy. While gestational diabetes usually
disappears after the birth of the baby, up to half of all mothers with
gestational diabetes develop Type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes
within 15 years of giving birth. For more information about services
offered through the NMMC Diabetes Treatment Center, call 1-800-THE DESK
(1-800-843-3375).

Gynecological
Surgery
The Women's Hospital
provides inpatient and outpatient services for all women at all stages
of their life. The gynecological surgery service is one of the busiest
in the state. Our surgeons perform all areas of gynecological surgery,
including hysterectomies, cesarean sections, bladder repair,
laparoscopic, gynecological cancer and laser surgeries. The surgery
suite contains three operating rooms, and full time anesthesia
coverage is provided by staff anesthesiologists and nurse
anesthetists. |

Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit
The hospital’s Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit is a specialty care facility and has recently undergone
extensive renovations and equipment upgrades. The NICU is designed to
handle the extensive problems typically encountered by the premature or
critically ill newborn, and can accommodate up to 22 babies.
Board-certified
neonatologists treat patients from throughout the region, whether they are
born at the NMMC Women’s Hospital or transferred by mobile intensive care
unit or helicopter to Tupelo from hospitals in outlying communities.

|
Neonatologists provide
medical care for sick newborn infants, who are either born prematurely,
are having difficulty making the transition from fetal life to life after
birth, or are suffering from congenital malformations or infectious
diseases. The Women’s Hospital NICU is able to provide two types of high
frequency ventilation for critically ill newborns.
Teleconferencing allows
pediatricians to participate in real-time discussions with surrounding
medical centers, including Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center and
Vanderbilt University Medical Center. |
