Meet the Nurse Manager: Kim Thompson, MSN, RN

Kim ThompsonKim has been working for NMMC-Tupelo since 1997, except for five years when she lived in a different state. She decided to become a nurse due to her family’s long history with the nursing profession. As she watched her mother care for others, she decided that was the route she wanted to take as well. Kim worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for six years before finishing nursing school to become a Registered Nurse. “When I was in nursing school, I remember feeling lucky because I already worked for North Mississippi Medical Center, a hospital that many longed to work for,” Kim said. “I knew an RN position wasn’t promised even though I was already an employee, so I was thrilled to be able to start my RN journey with NMMC.” Kim recently obtained her master’s degree in Nursing Leadership. “It was definitely a challenge, especially during COVID-19. I encourage anyone to further his/her education. You can do anything you put your mind to, and the possibilities in nursing are endless,” Kim said.

Kim and her husband enjoy spending time with their pets, traveling, shopping, and spending time with friends and family.
