Melissa Coker Named NMMC’s Employee of the Month
TUPELO, Miss.—Melissa Coker, registered nurse on the Mother Baby Care unit at Women’s Hospital, was named the Employee of the Month at North Mississippi Medical Center.
Coker joined NMMC in 2011. She previously worked on 3 East Stepdown Unit before moving to Women’s Hospital.
She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Northeast Mississippi Community College and completed work on a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women. Coker is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
“The best part of my job is getting to witness families welcome their new additions and helping them transition through that process,” Coker said. “It is truly a blessing and is very rewarding.”
In her nomination, coworkers described Coker as professional, caring and kind.
“She is a fantastic role model for the new graduate nurses and tenured nurses,” a coworker wrote in her nomination. “She trains new nurses and provides a positive example to inspire all nurses to put their patients first. Melissa is a credit to the nursing profession as well as Women’s Hospital.”
A Women’s Hospital pediatrician noted of Coker: “Personally, Melissa in my experience is cheerful, reliable and efficient in her duties. She is helpful and dependable in the most important task we have—taking care of babies and their families.”
