NMMC Cancer Registry Awarded Gold Certification
TUPELO, Miss.—The North Mississippi Medical Center Cancer Registry was recently awarded the Gold Certification by the Mississippi Cancer Registry.
The Gold Certification, which is their highest recognition, recognizes hospitals for the submission of timely, complete and high quality data to the Mississippi Cancer Registry.
To receive a Gold Certification, hospitals must have submitted at least 95 percent of expected volume of cancer cases diagnosed and/or receiving first course of treatment. At least 95 percent must have been submitted within eight months of the patient’s first date of contact.
The Mississippi Cancer Registry began a certification process in 2008 for hospitals. The program was modeled after the central cancer registry certification conducted by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).
“We work hard to submit complete, timely and high-quality data,” said Shelia White, NMMC cancer registrar. “This data helps agencies make public health decisions, as well as with cancer research and evaluating treatment efficacy.”
