West Point Medical Clinic & Urgent Care to Open Aug. 1

WEST POINT, Miss.—West Point Medical Clinic and Urgent Care will open Tuesday, Aug. 1, with six physicians, walk-in service and extended hours seven days a week for busy families.

The new 11,000-square-foot medical office complex is located on the east side of the North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point campus at 755 Emergency Drive and is visible from U.S. Hwy 45. North Mississippi Health Services has invested more than $3 million in the new complex. The clinic is part of the North Mississippi Medical Clinics network, which includes more than 30 clinics across north Mississippi and northwest Alabama.

One side of the medical office complex is a family practice. The other side is Clay County’s only urgent care staffed by physicians.

Three of the clinic’s physicians come from established practices in West Point, and three will be new to the area’s medical community.

The clinic will be staffed by Keith Box, D.O.; John Browning, M.D.; Suzanne DePaulo, M.D.; Ned Miller, D.O; Ronald E. Powell, D.O.; and Robert H. Smith, Jr., D.O.

Drs. Powell and Smith have practiced in West Point for many years, and Dr. DePaulo opened a local practice in May 2016. Their existing practices—West Point Medical Clinic and West Point Primary Care Clinic—will be closed Friday, July 28, and Monday, July 31, to move to the new facility.

While Dr. Miller is a new physician, he is certainly not new to West Point. He is the son of longtime internal medicine physician Ed Miller, M.D., and a lifelong resident. Dr. Miller earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Mississippi State University in Starkville. He received his medical degree from the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg and completed residency training at the NMMC Family Medicine Residency Center in Tupelo.

Dr. Box received his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University in Starkville, and his medical training from the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine in Kentucky. He completed his residency at the NMMC Family Medicine Residency Center and most recently practiced at Chickasaw Medical Clinic in Houston.

Dr. Browning received his bachelor’s degree in history and psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans, and his master’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson and completed residency training at the NMMC Family Medicine Residency Center.

Appointments on the family medicine side of the clinic are available between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday by calling (662) 494-8500 or 1-800-THE DESK (1-800-843-3375).

The urgent care side of the clinic will be open from 8 a.m.-7:45 p.m. Monday-Friday; 8 a.m.-6:45 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5:45 p.m. Sunday. No appointment is necessary.
