NMMC Neurodevelopmental Clinic Relocates
TUPELO, Miss.—Transitioning home from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is challenging for all families. To help ease the transition, North Mississippi Medical Center offers a Neurodevelopmental Clinic.
The clinic, which has been in operation for 15 years at the NMMC Outpatient Rehabilitation Center in Longtown Medical Park, recently relocated to Children’s of Mississippi Specialty Clinic in Journal Business Park, 1150 South Green Street, Building 2, Suite D.
Neurodevelopmental Clinic staff members are experts on the impact of illness and prematurity in the early years of life. They serve as “extra eyes” to make sure that all of a child’s medical and developmental needs are being met.
The staff includes nurse practitioner Tina King as well as experienced NICU nurses and developmental therapists. A social worker, dietitian and other medical professionals are available on a consult and/or telemedicine basis.
A child’s first appointment may be scheduled by the NICU, therapy services or a physician. Appointments are usually two to three months apart initially, then gradually farther apart as the child grows and develops. The clinic is designed to follow a child as long as he or she has continuing developmental needs or when development is consistent with chronological age.
