The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) and the Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) recently recognized North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point as a Biosafety Champion

WEST POINT, Miss.—The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) and the Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) recently recognized North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point as a Biosafety Champion. This honor was developed collaboratively by the MSDH and the MHA as a way to recognize each facility that participated in the Mississippi Biosafety Preparedness Exercises in 2017 and 2018. The exercise consisted of a real-world outbreak scenario to assess each facility’s ability and dedication to safely handle unknown, highly infectious agents in its laboratory. Each Biosafety Champion has helped strengthen the state’s biosafety and biosecurity practices to ensure that it is prepared to evaluate the risk of any unknown biothreat.
