Physicians’ Hope Fund Provides Pool Lift at Wellness Center
TUPELO, Miss.—Carla Belue, an incomplete paraplegic since a car accident in 1992, and other individuals with limited mobility can now use the North Mississippi Medical Center Wellness Center’s pool, thanks to a power lift donated by local physicians.
The pool lift was purchased through the Physicians’ HOPE (Helping Our Patients Everyday) Fund at the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi. Realizing pool therapy would greatly enhance rehabilitation for Belue and other long-term patients like her, neurosurgeon Louis Rosa, M.D., contacted the Foundation about funding a lift. The HOPE Fund physician committee immediately responded with $7,000 from physician donations to the fund.
“I really appreciate the Foundation’s support for this project,” Dr. Rosa said. “I’ve donated over the years to support Foundation projects and hospital patient care needs. Their support for this lift helps me personally see that my gifts are making a difference for NMMC patients and families.”
The HOPE Fund is a physician-driven, annual giving program designed to engage NMMC physicians in supporting important health needs and services that are especially significant to the medical staff.
