Pitts Recognized with ASHP 2017 Distinguished Service Award
TUPELO, Miss.—The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists recently recognized Wes Pitts, Pharm.D., of Mantachie with the Pharmacy Practice Sections Distinguished Service Award.
Pitts serves as assistant director of North Mississippi Medical Center’s Clinical Pharmacy Services as well as pharmacy specialist in diabetes and informatics. He joined the NMMC staff in 1998.
One of six recipients nationwide, Pitts was selected by ASHP to represent the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. He is a past president of the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists, has served as a Mississippi representative to the ASHP House of Delegates, and is a past vice chair and chair of the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners Educational Steering Committee. He is a current member of the ASHP Commission on Affiliate Relations and was named a Fellow of ASHP in 2014.
Pitts earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences in 1998 and his Doctor of Pharmacy in 2000, both from the University of Mississippi. He became a board certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in 2009.
Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists named Pitts as Health-System Pharmacist of the Year in 2011. He received MSHP’s Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award in 2011, President’s Award in 2009 and Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award in 2007. He was named MSHP’s Outstanding Young Pharmacist in 2005.
