TUPELO, Miss.—Registered nurse Lauren Hicks of 3 Central recently received North Mississippi Medical Center’s DAISY Award for August.
Hicks was nominated by coworkers for her exceptional care of a dying patient and the family. “She offered support and reassurance to the family continuously. She was their rock and their shoulder to cry on during their loss,” the nomination states. “After work ended, Lauren remained in town for an extra two hours so she could go to the florist and bring flowers back to the family. Lauren’s heart is the perfect example of what a nurse’s heart should be. We are so glad to have her on our team.”
Hicks is a 2015 graduate of Mooreville High School and joined the NMMC staff three years ago, completing both an externship and internship at the hospital while in nursing school. She earned her associate degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College in 2018. Hicks will graduate in August 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women.
She is the daughter of Phillip and Susan Hicks of Mooreville and is engaged to Noah Holcomb. The couple will marry on Jan. 11.
She received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.
