TUPELO, Miss.—Registered nurse Shelby Mullins of 2 West recently received North Mississippi Medical Center’s DAISY Award for June.
“Shelby has to our family been everything this award stands for,” wrote a patient’s family in her nomination. “Shelby has been a compassionate, kind, caring and skillful nurse. Shelby always has a smile on her face that makes the whole room of people smile. She always tried to cheer up my Dad. She would bring him flowers, ice cream and milkshakes, and tease him to make him smile. She was an extraordinary nurse to our whole family.”
Mullins is a 2011 graduate of Alcorn Central High School in Corinth and earned her associate degree in nursing from Northeast Mississippi Community College in 2015. She joined NMMC as a nurse on 2 West in December 2016.
She received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.
