The NMMC Aphasia Support Group will meet on July 25

Aphasia support groupTUPELO, Miss.— North Mississippi Medical Center will have a meeting for the Aphasia Support Group from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, for individuals with aphasia to interact with others and learn strategies for communication.

Meetings will be held at the NMMC Wellness Center classroom, located at 1030 S. Madison, the fourth Thursday of each month. Participants are welcome to bring their lunch. Licensed, certified speech pathologists will lead the group.

According to the National Aphasia Association, aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to write. Aphasia is always caused by injury to the brain—most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. Brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma or infections.
