Robbins Receives DAISY Award

TUPELO, Miss.—Registered nurse Pam Robbins of Saltillo recently received North Mississippi Medical Center’s DAISY Award for January 2019.

Pam RobbinsPam Robbins (center) is presented NMMC’s DAISY Award for January by (from left) David Wilson, NMMC president; Donna Pritchard, NMMC chief nursing executive; Kristen Long, director of inpatient surgical nursing; and Cathy Nunley, 4 South nurse manager.

Robbins, who is a nurse educator, was nominated by staff on 4 South. “She consistently goes above and beyond. During the flu season in early 2018, she was often helping staff answer call lights and the phone, and taking patients water or blankets,” they wrote. “She still helps out on the floor, answers call lights, assists with admissions and discharges, and answers approximately 1,000 questions every day. She truly is a team player, and our floor is so grateful to have her.” Staff members wrote that Robbins helps with difficult procedures, gives medication to patients when their nurses are busy with other patients, helps reposition patients, and keeps staff up to date on policies and procedures.

Robbins graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in 1985 and joined the NMMC staff in May 1988. She earned her associate degree in nursing in 1989 from Itawamba Community College and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama in Florence in 2002. Robbins spent 20 years working on 6 South as a staff nurse, charge nurse and nurse manager. She became a nurse educator in 2011 and now works with 4 South, 4 West, Bariatric Center and Joint Replacement Center staff.

She received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.
