WEST POINT, Miss.—North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point Wellness Center recently dedicated a new mural in honor of former director Tracy Stebbins Arnett, who retired in August.
The mural brings “a breath of fresh air” to the Wellness Center, according to local artist Deborah Mansfield, who completed the mural in October. “It makes me feel like you have brought the outside in,” she said, noting that it incorporates colors from all the seasons in nature. “It encourages people to be adventurous and enjoy the beauty around you… set goals for yourself and make a positive change in yourself and for others.”
NMMC-West Point Administrator Barry Keel commissioned the mural in honor of Arnett, the Wellness Center’s founding director who served 26 years. “Tracy helped design and develop the Wellness Center,” Keel said. “She is such an avid outdoorswoman, we thought an outdoor themed mural would be perfect. The quotes on the mural are two of Tracy’s favorites—‘Be Stronger than Your Excuses’ and ‘Be the Change You Wish to See in the World.’”
“It really is such a great honor, especially because I am a huge fan of Deborah’s work. I’m such a tree-hugger, so the painting itself speaks to me, as do the words,” Arnett said. “The mural is a beautiful use of that space in the Wellness Center, and I hope it will inspire people to apply the words in their own life.”
