Cindy West’s coworkers, family and friends recently gathered at a beach-themed party honoring her 27 years of service to North Mississippi Medical Center.

West began her career in health care at the age of 17 as a nurses aide. In 1976 she finished her LPN certification, and in 1990 became a registered nurse.

She joined NMMC in 1993 in the Intensive Care Unit, but spent most of her career in Home Health.

“My favorite thing about my job was the patients,” West said. “In home care, you're in their homes and you spend a lot of time with them, and I’ll miss them.”

West says in retirement she looks forward to traveling, camping, reading more and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a retirement trip to Israel planned, but travel restrictions have caused that trip to be rescheduled.

She has three children and two step children. Together, she and her husband, Mark, have 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She also plans to go on mission trips and do more work with her church, Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory.

Eventually, she wants to serve as a hospice volunteer. “I’m looking forward to being back with patients and helping out where I can,” West said.
