North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point has recognized Bertha Matthews of Environmental Services as the most recent Employee of the Quarter.
Matthews joined the hospital’s Environmental Services staff in 1997. She attended West Point High School.
Coworkers cited Matthews as friendly and helpful, and say she always does a thorough cleaning job. “Before she leaves any room, she asks the patient if she can help them or tell their nurse anything,” her nomination states. “This employee does not mind stopping her work to help others.”
“What I love best about my job is cleaning the Surgery Department, Emergency Department and ICU, and doing it right the first time,” Matthews said. “I love working with the patients and family members and giving them encouraging words to uplift them.”
She is married to Bolden Matthews and has three children, Angela Collins, Selena Matthews and Stanley Mangum. She is a member of Union Star Missionary Baptist Church in West Point.
