Announcement from NMHS CEO Shane Spees

I am pleased to announce the promotion of several senior leaders within NMHS as part of a “systemness” reorganization that will be effective October 1, 2021.  The promotions are outlined as follows:

•             David Wilson will assume the role of NMHS Chief Operating Officer in addition to his current role as NMMC Tupelo–President.  The role of chief operating officer will expand Mr. Wilson’s duties to include operational responsibility for all NMHS hospitals and existing joint ventures.

•             TJ Adams’ role as Vice President will be expanded to include the role and title of NMMC Tupelo– Administrator and his current surgical service line responsibilities (including central sterile processing) will be expanded to include surgical services at Amory, Tupelo and West Point, Mississippi and Hamilton, Alabama.  In addition, Mr. Adams will remain as the administrative leader of our cardiovascular service line in Tupelo.  He will continue to report to Mr. David Wilson.

The following Vice Presidents will assume expanded roles as their leadership and expertise in key clinical and support services will be applied across the NMHS footprint and markets in northeast Mississippi and northwest Alabama (and will report to Mr. David Wilson): 

o             Angie Everett will assume responsibility for all post-acute/long term care, rehab/therapy services as well as case management.

o             Todd Davis will assume responsibility for facility management and construction across our healthcare system.

o             Domingo Valpuesta will assume responsibility for the following services across our system: hematology and oncology (cancer care), radiology and pharmacy (including inpatient, outpatient and retail pharmacy).

o             Melody Poole will lead organizational performance/quality/accreditation, infection control and medical staff support services across our system.  She will continue to report to NMHS Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jeremy Blanchard.

We refer to these organizational changes as “Systemness 2.0” as it represents restructuring of leadership to address the ongoing need to operate more as a system rather than as a collection of individual hospitals, clinics, outpatient facilities and nursing homes.  Future market demands driven by payors and consumers will require increasing levels of efficiency, productivity, agility, standardization and targeted growth; all of which will require greater coordination and leveraging of resources across the system.  Our experience through COVID has demonstrated the tremendous value of systemness and this new organizational structure will allow us to leverage the momentum of systemness that has developed over the past two years.

I am very pleased to have the internal talent within our system to promote into these important leadership roles.  I congratulate this outstanding group of leaders on their respective promotion and have great confidence they will help lead us to new levels of systemness.  I greatly appreciate your ongoing dedication and support of our healthcare system “to continuously improve the health of the people of our region.”
