Jennifer Merrell of Saltillo has lost 102 pounds since having weight loss surgery in December 2017 at NMMC. “I did not have a goal weight; I had a 'goal feeling' and I met that goal months ago,” Jennifer says. At 227 pounds, she suffered with plantar fasciitis, knee and hip pain, and fatigue—all of which have completely resolved or dramatically improved. So much so, in fact, that she now takes the stairs every day at work. As a bonus, her blood pressure is lower and lipid panel numbers are better. Jennifer’s biggest motivation to have surgery was the fear that her weight would limit her mobility and affect her job as a nurse. “I have much more energy now and can zip up and down the long halls like I did in my 20s,” says Jennifer, who is 46. “My only regret is not doing it sooner."
