Phyllis McKoin Named NMMC’s Employee of the Month

TUPELO, Miss.–Phyllis McKoin, supervisor for Ambassador Services, was selected as Employee of the Month at North Mississippi Medical Center.

McKoin joined NMMC in 1987 as a ward secretary/monitor technician with the float pool. She became the first ward secretary when the Rehabilitation Institute opened in 1988, then transitioned into the occupational therapy technician role with Rehabilitation Services in 1991. She assumed her current position as supervisor with Ambassador Services in 1993.

She is a graduate of Pontotoc High School and earned her business and office certification from Itawamba Community College in Tupelo.

“What I love most about my job is my team and interacting with and serving our patients and customers,” McKoin said.

In her nomination coworkers describe her as a hardworking, caring and conscientious employee.

“She is a servant leader who does not ask her employees to do something that she is not willing to do and is very dependable,” one coworker wrote in her nomination. “She is compassionate and treats the patients and families with dignity and respect.”

“She always wants the best for her department and employees,” another coworker wrote. “Phyllis is a very humble manager and never takes credit for the accolades given to her department because she wants her staff to be recognized for their hard work and efforts.”

Her family includes her husband of almost 39 years, Jack McKoin, and their daughter, Samantha McKoin West.

McKoin is from Tiptonville, Tenn., but claims Tupelo as her home.
