NMMC Dedicates Renovated Chapel, New Meditation Room

TUPELO, Miss. –A generous donation from the Auxiliary of NMMC will benefit the spiritual health and well-being of patients, families and staff at North Mississippi Medical Center.

The $90,000 gift reflects proceeds from the Auxiliary Gift and Floral Shop, located in NMMC’s lobby. The funding provided a complete renovation of the existing chapel on the hospital’s third floor. In addition to a new stained glass window, piano, seating and other enhancements, the chapel’s layout was redesigned to be more accommodating, including the increased accessibility provided by an automatic door.

Located directly across the hallway is a new meditation room, which includes a stained glass window, kneeling bench and soft music. The meditation room, like the chapel, offers a calming environment for a quiet respite from the hospital setting.

David Wilson, North Mississippi Medical Center president, said, “We are truly appreciative of the ongoing support from the Auxiliary of NMMC. Their gift provided a much-needed renovation of our chapel and made the addition of the new meditation room, both of which are designed to be used by members of multiple religions, possible.”

Donna Hambrick, Auxiliary of NMMC president, said, “The auxiliary is always eager to help with projects that benefit the hospital’s patients, families and staff.”

In addition to Wilson and Hambrick, the participants in a dedication service on Aug. 9 were Lowell Walker, staff chaplain; Todd Davis, NMMC vice president of facility maintenance and construction; Don Simmons, NMMC Pastoral Care Advisory Committee chairman; David Perry, committee member; and Pat Hinton, Charles Faust and Debra Lay, volunteer chaplains and committee members.
