Terry Hunter Selected NMMC’s Employee of the Month

TUPELO, Miss.—North Mississippi Medical Center has named Terry Hunter, team leader in Environmental Services, as July’s Employee of the Month.

Hunter joined NMMC in 2003. He is a graduate of West Clay High School and studied at Mary Holmes College in West Point.

He is married to Diann Hunter and he has five children—Sheresa Poole, 38; Terry Terrell, 36; Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, 34; Tiara Clayborn, 28; and 19-year-old Malik Allen.

Hunter said the thing he liked most about his job is interacting with patients and their families.

“While I’m in the room I get a chance to share with them,” Hunter said. “I ask them how they’re doing, pray with them if they want and encourage them. I love doing that.”

Coworkers praised Hunter for his compassion for patients and cordial manner. In his nomination, it was noted that Hunter had been praised by a patient’s family that had been in and out of NMMC-Tupelo for more than three years. Over time, he provided the patient and family members comfort and prayed with them. The family honored Hunter by naming him an honorary pallbearer for the patient upon her passing. “Terry is a true ambassador of patient- and family-centered care at NMMC,” one coworker wrote in his nomination.

“Terry is leading the way within our department with customer service,” another coworker wrote. “He also is an exceptional floor tech and works well with his peers.”

Hunter is originally from Mantee and currently resides in Okolona. He serves as a deacon at Words of Faith Church in Tupelo.
