12th Annual Midnite Pottery Butterfly, Platter To Benefit NMMC Cancer Patients
TUPELO, Miss.— Midnite Pottery and North Mississippi Medical Center Cancer Care are introducing the 12th in a series of original butterfly pottery to benefit cancer patients.
Local artist Jennifer Hankins created the 2018 pottery butterfly and platter to be sold exclusively by NMMC Cancer Care. “This is a true ‘labor of love’ for me,” Hankins said. “It is always easy to get inspiration for a new butterfly because I know every sale helps someone who may be struggling financially because of cancer. I lost my Mom to cancer in November 2012, so helping cancer patients through this project is especially close to my heart.”
As in years past each butterfly is accented with a unique wire and colored bead. Some of the butterflies have a pink bead for breast cancer. Each butterfly sells for $20, and each platter sells for $40. Both benefit the NMMC Cancer Care Fund, which is administered by the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi.
The Cancer Care Fund helped 345 patients for a total of $215,000 granted in 2017. Monies are raised through several annual fundraisers as well as donations given by family members in memory or honor of a cancer patient. NMMC employees also donate approximately $3,000 each month through payroll deduction.
“The Cancer Care Fund helps so many people,” Hankins said. “You never know when it may be one of your family members or friends who is receiving the help.”
