Thomas Honored with BEE Award

TUPELO, Miss.—Lydia Thomas, a developmental therapist with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, recently received North Mississippi Medical Center’s BEE (Beyond Exceptional Expectations) Award for October.

Thomas was nominated by the parents and grandparents of an NICU patient. “Our granddaughter was born five weeks premature. She was transported from Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville to Tupelo, which was traumatic to the new mother and father and grandparents,” the nomination states. “Upon our first visit to the NICU, all fears were put to bed. Lydia was so kind, gentle and soft spoken. She explained each step as she cared for Emery. She expressed interest in the total family by asking us questions. Her love for her job and these babies was evident in all her being.”

A Mooreville resident, Thomas joined the NMMC staff in 2002. She is a native of Corinth and earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1993.

She received a certificate, a BEE Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a cake. The BEE Award is given to a deserving caregiver each month at NMMC. Nomination forms are available throughout NMMC or at For more information, call (662) 377-3431 or email
