Debra Oaks Named NMMC’s Employee of the Month
TUPELO, Miss.—Debra Oaks, unit coordinator and monitor technician in the Critical Care Unit, was named North Mississippi Medical Center’s latest Employee of the Month.
Oaks has worked at NMMC for 42 years. She also volunteered at the hospital as a candy striper while in high school.
A graduate of Saltillo High School, Oaks earned an associate degree in liberal arts from Itawamba Community College in Fulton.
When asked what she loves most about her job, Oaks said it was the people she works with in Critical Care.
“I love being able to help ensure that our patients are given good quality care. I am proud to be part of the Critical Care Unit and an employee at NMMC,” she said.
Coworkers noted the compassion and quality service that Oaks provides for patients and family members in the Critical Care Unit.
“Debra is always so kind. She goes above and beyond her duties with a smile on her face,” one coworker wrote in her nomination. “The families that come into the Critical Care Unit are stressed, and Debra’s sweet smile and caring attitude help them to get past some of those fears.”
“Her character, demeanor and kind spirit set her apart from anyone else,” another coworker wrote. “She is easy to talk to, communicates clearly and her expectations are known on the unit.”
Oaks lives in Saltillo and her family includes daughter Lashona, son-in-law Jason Taylor and a grandson, Chase. She attends Mayfield Church of Christ. Oaks’ mother, Dorothy Yates, was a long-time NMMC employee as well.
