Farrar Retires with 37 Years of Service

Kathy Farrar

Coworkers at North Mississippi Surgery Center honored “Retirement Queen” Kathy Farrar with a luncheon June 27.

Kathy Farrar, a registered nurse at the North Mississippi Surgery Center, has retired with 37 years of service to North Mississippi Medical Center.

Farrar graduated from Jumpertown High School in 1975 and completed the LPN program at Northeast Mississippi Community College in 1976. She worked 14 years as an LPN—first for the Booneville hospital and then on NMMC’s 5 West and in surgery at Women’s Hospital. After completing her associate degree in 1990 through NEMCC’s accelerated nursing program, she worked as a registered nurse for NMMC Home Health, a private practice in Baldwyn and on the mother/baby unit at NMMC Women’s Hospital. In 2012, she transferred to the Surgery Center, where she finished out her career.

After spending most of her life at NMMC, Farrar says, “I grew up there, I think.” In retirement she looks forward to traveling some with Tommy, her husband of 27 years, who retired from Cooper Tire the same day she retired from NMMC. The Farrars live in Saltillo and have a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Tori. She enjoys flower gardening and is a member of East Heights Baptist Church.

“I plan to read some books that I’ve had a long time and just take life easy,” Farrar said. “I’m looking forward to doing what I want to do when I want to.”
