NMMC-West Point Honors Calvert as Outstanding Employee

WEST POINT, Miss.—Paris Calvert of the Security Department has been selected as Employee of the Quarter by his peers at North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point.

Calvert joined the hospital staff in 2015 after retiring from the City of West Point. He graduated from West Point High School and attended East Mississippi Community College. He is trained in homeland security and CPR, and is a certified umpire.

“The best part of the job is making people feel good about themselves and making a difference,” Calvert said. “What I love most is making a change in someone’s life.”

Coworkers say Calvert always goes out of his way to help others and he does it with a smile. “Paris models teamwork and shows respect,” his nomination states. “He exhibits awesome people skills with friendliness and kindness.”

His nomination cited several examples of his dedication, including walking visitors to their destination rather than giving directions, helping visitors and employees whose cars won't start, suggesting ideas to improve his department and being a good listener. “He is active in the community helping with all types of sports events, including volunteer umpiring,” a coworker wrote.

“Treat everyone as you want to be treated,” Calvert urges. “No matter how your day is going, just know it could be worse. Just stay positive.”

He has a son, Demontez; three daughters, Kamron, J’Shunna and M’Paris; and a grandson, Haiden. He is a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.
